Maths

Maths

Goal: Seth will learn to make a pattern.
Evaluation: Achiever. Seth understood, very quickly, how to make a pattern using 2 or more colours and shapes.
Next Steps: A next step to follow making a pattern is to observe patterns that exist in our environment and to use this information for understanding maths problems.

Goal: Seth will learn about grouping numbers.
Evaluation: Improver. Seth can instantly identify groupings to 10. He can accurately group objects in the range to 20.
Next Steps: Seth can work towards recalling groups of objects in the range to 20 and make groups of objects beyond 20.

Goal: Seth will Learn about Fractions.
Evaluation: Learner. Seth can identify halves and quarters by cutting an apple and other objects.
Next Steps: To extend his fractions further to thirds and more.

Goal: Seth will practice addition and subtraction skills.
Evaluation: Achiever. Seth can use numicon to complete addition and subtraction equations independently in the range to 30, and needs some assistance to do the same in the range to 50.
Next Steps: Continue to practice add sub skills into bigger numbers.

Goal: Seth will participate in statistical activities and language.
Evaluation: Improver. Seth has learned about collecting data, displaying the date on various types of graphs and using the correct language to describe statistical mathematics.
Next Steps: Seth will continue to learn more about maths with statistics and collating this information.

Goal: Seth will learn about Geometry and Measurement.
Evaluation: Improver. Seth has extended his knowledge of shapes and has learned more about tools used to measure, how to measure and record information.
Next Steps: Seth will extend his knowledge to use more conventional units of measurement.

Money
During Term 3 Seth continued to practice real money skills by shopping with $2 at New World to purchase something that he had chosen which he could afford to buy. Seth understood that he could only purchase items that added up to or below $2.
During term 3 and 4 Seth has continued to practice using money in our class shop lessons and from ipad money apps that Seth participated in. Seth also enjoyed being the bingo caller for money bingo, which tested knowledge of identifying coins and notes.
Seth has achieved well with the money assessment by achieving matching the money to the correct price and Seth is now working on identifying the notes and coins in a price.

Maths

Goal: Seth will consolidate his number knowledge by solving basic double digit (20-30) addition, subtraction and skip counting activities.

Evaluation: Improver. He is able to use numicon to solve addition and subtraction problems in the range to 30 with minimal assistance. He will correctly write the answer to the problem in his math book. Seth is also able to skip count in ten's independently to 30 and with assistance to 100.

Next Steps: Seth will be working on identifying groups of numbers and making groups of numbers to ten, and will also learn about patterns.

Goal: Seth will name number groups to 10 and make number groups to 10.
Evaluation: Achieved. Seth can instantly name a group of objects up to 10. He can also accurately make groups of objects to 10.
Next Steps: Identify groups of numbers to 20.

Goal: Seth will identify what a pattern is, and make a pattern of his own design.
Evaluation: Achieved. Seth can identify patterns in the environment and he can make his own pattern using materials.
Next Steps: Seth will learn about more complex patterns and use these understandings with his number knowledge.

Maths

Maths Learning Goals:

Seth will learn to skip count in 10’s, then 2’s.
Seth will participate in position and orientation activities.
Seth will order New Zealand currency in value.
Seth will count forwards and backwards.

Evaluation: Seth can confidently skip count in 10's. He is learning to skip count in 2's and can currently skip count in 2's to ten. Seth is a confident counter, counting easily forwards to 100 and counting backwards using a 100's board. Seth can accurately order New Zealand currency from smallest to largest value and he enjoys using the money to make purchases from our little shop. Seth has also been experiencing statistics through activities which involve chance and thought around possible outcomes. He has also been learning the language used to describe position and orientation, for example, under, on, left, right or forwards and backwards.

Next Steps: Seth will continue with skip counting in 2's until he has achieved this with confidence. He will also continue practicing addition and subtraction and the Strand Maths subjects.
